Successful Installation of a Centralized Dust Extraction System at a Furniture Manufacturing Plant
Garant Filter Pvt. Ltd. has successfully installed a centralized dust extraction system at a furniture manufacturing plant, where wood, PVC, and aluminium dust are generated across different machines. The project included three separate, dedicated extraction systems one for each dust type designed around the facility’s specific production requirements rather than a single common arrangement.
Project Overview
Project Detail | Specification |
Industry | Furniture Manufacturing |
Application | Centralized Dust Extraction |
Dust Types | Wood, PVC & Aluminium |
Extraction Systems | 3 Separate Systems |
Fan Operation | VFD Controlled |
Wood Fan Motor | 37 kW |
Aluminium & PVC Fan Motor | 30 kW |
Dust Discharge | Rotary Air Valve |
How the System Works
The system is designed to collect dust directly from multiple machines installed across the manufacturing facility. As the machines operate, dust generated during cutting, processing, finishing, and other production activities is drawn toward the designated extraction points and transported through the ducting to the respective collection system.
- Dust Generation – machines produce wood, PVC, or aluminium dust during manufacturing
- Dust Capture – extraction points collect dust close to the source
- Air Movement – suction fans create the airflow needed to transport dust through the ducting
- Filtration – dust-laden air reaches the collection system, where dust is separated from the air
- Clean Air Release – filtered air is released into the atmosphere
- Dust Discharge – collected dust exits the system through a rotary air valve
Separate Systems for Wood, PVC & Aluminium Dust
Different materials produce different dust characteristics, so each extraction system was engineered separately rather than relying on one common arrangement for all three.
Wood Dust Collection:
Woodworking machines generate considerable fine dust during cutting, shaping, and sanding. The dedicated wood extraction system captures this dust from multiple connected machines and transports it to the centralized collector, powered by a 37 kW VFD-driven fan.
PVC Dust Extraction:
PVC processing produces dust and particles that need to be captured close to the source. This arrangement collects material from the relevant machines and moves it through its own extraction network, sharing the 30-kW suction fan configuration used for aluminium.
Aluminium Dust Extraction:
Aluminium processing generates fine and coarse metallic particles during manufacturing. A dedicated extraction arrangement captures this dust at the source and directs it to the appropriate collection system via a 30 kW VFD-controlled fan.
VFD Fan Control & Rotary Air Valve Discharge
Fan speed on all three systems is adjusted via Variable Frequency Drives to match real-time operating requirements, avoiding the energy and wear penalties of fixed-speed operation. Once dust is separated from the air, it is discharged through a rotary air valve, which regulates the movement of collected material from the dust collector and supports continuous, controlled discharge keeping dust handling organized and reliable during production.
Key Benefits
- Improved workplace air quality and enhanced safety through better airborne dust control
- Centralized management of dust from multiple machines
- Separate, dedicated extraction for wood, PVC, and aluminium dust
- Adjustable, controlled fan operation through VFD technology
- Reliable, continuous dust discharge via rotary air valves
- Reduced maintenance effort through a planned, organized extraction system
- Consistent production conditions that support reliable manufacturing operations
Installation, Commissioning & Outcome
Successful installation involved more than positioning the dust collectors the extraction points, ducting, fans, filtration equipment, dust discharge arrangement, and connected machines all had to work together as one coordinated system. The completed project demonstrates the value of designing dust extraction around the actual requirements of a facility: by providing three separate centralized systems for wood, PVC, and aluminium dust, the plant can now manage dust from multiple machines through a single, structured extraction setup.
Conclusion
This installation reflects Garant Filter’s approach of designing dust extraction solutions around the actual materials, machines, and operating requirements of each facility. With VFD-controlled fans, dedicated collection systems, and rotary air valve discharge, the plant now benefits from cleaner, safer, and more reliably managed production conditions.
